Vaccine Description


Is a live virus vaccine given orally. The vaccine is given at 4 months and 6 months of age and as boosters at age of 18 months, and 4-6 years. The field efficacy demonistrated > 90% after 3 doses. The vaccine is replaced by the injectable inactivated (killed) vaccine in cases of immunodeficiency or household contact with immunodeficiency individuals.Vaccines are generally safe, however rare serious problems, such as severe allergic reaction might happen. Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) might cause soreness at the site of injection. Although the risk for vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis following oral polio vaccine (OPV) is low. Injectable form (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) is administered to decrease the risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis.
