Indications: moderate to severe dementia in Alzheimer's disease. Cautions: history of convulsions renal impairment, pregnancy. Contra-indications: Breast feeding Side Effects: constipation; hypertension; dyspnea; headache, dizziness, drowsiness; less commonly vomiting, thrombosis, heart failure, confusion, fatigue, hallucinations, and abnormal gait; very rarely seizures; pancreatitis, psychosis, depression, and suicidal ideation also reported. Dose: Initially 5 mg once daily, increased in steps of 5 mg at weekly intervals to max. 20 mg daily. |
