Referral Services for Secondary Health

Since the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Bahrain has adopted a system of referral to secondary care, the process of conversion is not a random process but is subject to the assessment of the treating physician and his decision based on scientific standards and criteria. These services are:

• Referral to the emergency department (Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain Defence Force Hospital and King Hamad University Hospital).
• Referral to the outpatient department in secondary care hospitals Salmaniya Medical Complex, BDF hospital and KHUH.
• Referral to sections such as nutrition clinic.
• Referral to secondary specialized dental services.
• Physical therapy.
• Some radiation tests that are not done in health centers.
