Services offered by the physiotherapy department:
The Physiotherapy Department offers diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitative and preventive services.
These services are high in quality and updated with the latest methods of treatments and techniques.
The Physiotherapy section is composed of several comprehensive units including: Orthopedic unit,
Neurological unit, Pediatrics unit, Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit and Hydrotherapy Unit.
The department also receive patients with other disorders such as heart and lung diseases, post-surgery patients, and benign positional vertigo.
It also provide many other services such as patient education, community activities for schools and companies,
therapeutic exercises and educational lectures for staff and patients, as well as training students.

Orthopedic unit
This unit is designed to provide therapeutic and rehabilitative services for patients with musculoskeletal disorders, joint disorder (back pain, neck pain, knee pain, etc.), post orthopedic surgeries and bone fractures.
Patients are examined and assessed by the physiotherapist in terms of severity of pain, joint movement, muscle strength, motor functions and other elements of evaluation required to create the appropriate treatment plan for each patient. The treatment plan includes:

Patient education and awareness of his condition.

The appropriate therapeutic exercises for each condition.

Other supportive treatments such as: electrotherapy, manual therapy and adhesive tape.

The required sessions and duration of treatment are determined.
The required number of sessions and duration of treatment depends on each condition and decided by the treating therapist.

Neurology Unit
This unit provides therapeutic and rehabilitation services for patients with neurological disorders such as hemiplegia, post stroke cases, multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases associated with central and peripheral nervous system injuries.
The treatment focuses on rehabilitating the patient and improving their functional performance for daily activities.

Pediatrics Unit
The Pediatric unit provides treatment and rehabilitation services to pediatric patients to improve their functional performance of daily activities.
The physiotherapist examines and evaluates each case and develop a therapeutic plan in innovative ways such as play and education.
Parents plays an important role in the rehabilitation process of their children and therapist educates them about their roles in the rehabilitation of their child.
The unit receives different conditions such as cerebral palsy, developmental delay, congenital malformations and Down's syndrome, as well as bone fractures.

Hydrotherapy Unit
The hydrotherapy unit provides complementary treatment services for patients with certain conditions.
It is basically treating patients by underwater exercises which helps strengthen muscles, increase flexibility of joints, and reduces pain, therefore increasing the level of fitness.
The hydrotherapy sessions are conducted under the direct supervision of the physiotherapist to obtain safe and effective sessions.

How to get the service
Physiotherapy services are available in some health centers distributed among the governorates.
Patients should be referred by a physician in SMC or in the health center.

How to get an appointment
Patients can book the appointment in the physiotherapy department by presenting the ID card and after being referred by their physician.
The appointment is usually between 7-10 days but if the case required to be seen urgently, the patient will be assessed on the same day.
On the day of appointment the therapist evaluates the condition and provides the therapeutic plan.

In case of discontinuation of treatment for more than 20 days without prior arrangement with a physiotherapist, please refer to the doctor again before continuing treatment.
