Drug Generic Name BEZAFIBRATE

Chapter Cardiovascular System

Indications: hypertriglyceridaemia, hypercholesterolemia.

Cautions: reduce dose in moderate renal impairment; correct hypothyroidism before initiation of treatment Contra-indications: severe renal or hepatic impairment, hypoalbuminaemina, primary biliary cirrhosis, gall bladder disease, nephrotic syndrome, pregnancy and breast feeding.

Side Effects: gastrointestinal disturbance, rash, pruritis, rarely peripheral neuropathy.

Dose: 400 mg daily after food (this sustained release dose form is not appropriate in renal impairment).
