a selective alpha2-adrenoceptor stimulant. Indications: raised intra-ocular pressure in open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension in patients for whom beta-blockers are inappropriate; as adjunctive therapy when intra-ocular pressure is inadequately controlled by other antiglaucoma therapy. Cautions: severe cardiovascular disease; cerebral or coronary insufficiency, Raynaud's syndrome, postural hypotension, depression, hepatic or renal impairment; pregnancy, breast-feeding; Drowsiness may affect performance of skilled tasks (e.g. driving). Side Effects: conjunctival hyperaemia, burning, stinging, pruritus, allergy, and conjunctival folliculosis, visual disturbances, blepharitis, epiphora, corneal erosion, superficial punctuate keratitis, eye pain, discharge, dryness, and irritation, eyelid inflammation, oedema, pruritus conjunctivitis, photophobia; also, hypertension, headache, depression, dry mouth, fatigue, drowsiness; less commonly, taste disturbances, palpitation, dizziness, syncope, rhinitis, nasal dryness. Dose: Apply twice daily |
