This is an anticholinesterase drug. Indications myasthenia gravis Cautions: weaker muscarinic action, asthma, bradycardia, recent myocardial infarction epilepsy, hypotension, parkinsonism, peptic ulcer, renal impairment; pregnancy and breast-feeding. Contra-indications: intestinal or urinary obstruction. Side Effects: nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, abdominal cramps, bronchial secretions, sweating, weakness, hypotension and agitation. Dose: by mouth, 30-120mg at suitable intervals throughout the day. Total daily dose, 0.3-1.2 g. Neonates, 5-10mg every 4 hours, 1/2-1 hour before feed. Child up to 6 years, 30mg initially. 6-12 years, initially 60mg. Usual total daily dose 30-360mg. |
