Indications: pain and inflammation in rheumatic disease (including Still's disease) and other musculoskeletal disorders; acute gout; dysmenorrhoea. Cautions: In patients with renal, cardiac, or hepatic impairment caution is required since NSAIDs may impair renal function. Contra-indications: patient with hypersensitivity to Aspirin or other NSAIDs, pregnancy, breast feeding and patients with coagulase defects, severe heart failure. Side Effects: Gastro-intestinal discomfort, nausea, diarrhoea, and occasionally bleeding and ulceration occur; hypersensitivity reactions (particularly rashes, angioedema, and bronchospasm; Renal failure may be provoked by NSAIDs especially in patients with renal impairment; Hepatic damage, alveolitis, pulmonary eosinophilia, pancreatitis, eye changes, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are other rare side effects. Dose: by mouth, 0.5-1 g daily in 2 divided doses; Child (over 5 years), Still's disease, 10mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Acute musculoskeletal disorders and dysmenorrhoea, 500mg initially, then 250mg every 6-8 hours as required. Acute gout, 750mg initially, then 250mg every 8 hours until attack has passed. |
