This is an antimuscarinic drug. Indications: Parkinsonism, drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms (but not tardive dyskinesia) Cautions: same as for Benzhexol Hydrochloride. Contra-indications: gastrointestinal obstruction; tardive dyskinesia. Side Effects: same as for Benzhexol Hydrochloride, but causes sedation rather than stimulation; also gingivitis. Dose: By mouth, 2.5 mg 3 times daily, increased gradually in steps of 2.5–5 mg daily every 2–3 days if necessary; usual max. 30 mg daily in 2–4 divided doses (60 mg daily in exceptional circumstances); ELDERLY preferably lower end of range |
