Indications: Schizophrenia, Treatment and recurrence prevention of mania Cautions: cerebrovascular disease; elderly (reduce initial dose) Breast-feeding: avoid—present in milk Contra-indications: hepatic impairment use with caution in severe impairment Pregnancy: use only if potential benefit outweighs risk Breast-feeding: manufacturer advises avoid—present in milk. Side Effects: hypersalivation, anxiety, drowsiness, malaise; less commonly depression, dry mouth; also reported anorexia, oropharyngeal spasm, laryngospasm, respiratory disorders (including infection), hepatitis, pancreatitis, bradycardia, pathological gambling, suicidal ideation, hyponatraemia, urinary disorders, myalgia, rhabdomyolysis, oedema, sweating, alopecia. Dose: Schizophrenia, by mouth, ADULT over 18 years, 10–15 mg once daily, usual maintenance 15 mg once daily; max. 30 mg once daily; for dose adjustments due to concomitant use of interacting drugs, ; Treatment and recurrence prevention of mania, by mouth, ADULT over 18 years, 15 mg once daily, increased if necessary; max. 30 mg once daily; for dose adjustments due to concomitant use of interacting drugs. |
