(Chlorpheniramine maleate) Indication: symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including urticaria and angioedema, rhinitis, and conjunctivitis, and in pruritic skin disorders. Intravenously as an adjunct in the emergency treatment of anaphylactic shock. Cautions: epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, glaucoma and hepatic disease. Side Effects: drowsiness; impaired ability to drive or operate machinery; effects of alcohol maybe increased; headache; psychomotor impairment, anti-muscarinic effects such as urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, and gastro-intestinal disturbances; occasional rashes; rarely photosensitivity reaction and paradoxical stimulation especially with high doses and in children. Dose: by mouth, 4mg 3-4 times daily. Max. dose, 24mg daily. Child under 1 year, not recommended. 1-2 years, 1mg twice daily. 2-5 years, 1mg 4-6 times daily with a max. dose of 6mg daily. 6-12 years, 2mg 4-6 times daily with a max. dose of 12mg daily. |
