Dr. Mariam Al-Hajri -Director of Public Health- mentioned that the National Measles Committee held a meeting to review the technical procedures related to eradication of measles and the perpetrations to receive the World Health Organization (WHO) delegation for official assessment of the nationwide measles eradication. pointing out that the Kingdom of Bahrain is the first country in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR)which takes this initiative. According to Dr. Al-Hajri ,the Kingdom of Bahrain has made with support from the top leadership a great progress toward contagious diseases elimination, especially those targeted by vaccination , by providing free vaccinations with high quality and provide treatment for citizens and residents alike in all health centers all over the Kingdom of Bahrain . The most prominent accomplishments to get rid of measles is by sustaining high population immunity, strengthening the sensitivity of the surveillance system and lab testing of these disease she has been paying tribute to the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in many local , regional and international forums. Dr. Hajri also noted that all diagnosed measles infection cases are imported or linked to cases imported from other countries which constitute the major source of infection in Bahrain . A number of measles cases has recently recorded which summoned taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease, including arranging for vaccination campaigns in mulls and number of public and private schools where cases are discovered. In addition to strengthening the epidemiological surveillance in those schools and to monitor any new cases. pointing out that in the framework of preventive measures carried out by the public Health Department, A team from the Directorate of Public Health visited schools and a church as a precautionary measure to discover any cases and to ensure full immunization of citizens and residents.. She stressed the importance of routine vaccinations to all age groups in order to ensure continuous boosting of their immunity.
