The Department of Radiology at SMC strives continuously to provide the highest quality imaging services for all citizens and residents of the kingdom, in the most prompt, effective, and efficient manner within its available resources.

Goals and objectives
- To develop a departmental strategic plan with clear indicators in alignment with the MOH strategy and the MOH balanced score card by the end of 2013.

To reinforce the training of radiology staff by:
- Providing support for a newly established training team from March 2013.
- Conducting at least 2 symposia / workshops per year.
- Implementing the CME schedule starting from February 2013.

- Aiming for an above 60% success rate of 1st part candidates in 2013.
- Continuation of subspecialty training with joining of MSK radiologist by end of 2013 and women imaging and body imaging specialists by end of 2014.
- Conducting regular interdepartmental meeting from May 2013.
- Encouraging technical staff to obtain BSc and MSc degrees in specialized radiology fields with at least one technician to be sent for MSc in 2014.

To implement the concept of QI in the department by:
- Re-establishing a quality team in the department by June of 2013.
- Reviewing and updating the departmental DPPs by end of 2013.
- Performing a report turnaround time CQI by June of 2014 with special emphasis on A/E reports.

To ensure staff development and establishment of equal opportunities for staff.
- Forming a promotions council by March 2013.
- Rotating radiology residents in areas such as MRI and interventional radiology starting from March 2013.
- Recruiting at least 4 more radiologists by June 2014.
- Recruiting at least 3 more radiological technologists by May 2014.
- To reinforce the role of reception office by centralizing appointments by June 2013.
- To implement complete PCAS & RIS by June 2013.
- To maintain and purchase radiology equipment as per the list and schedule approved by MERCOM.
- Continue to reduce waiting lists for different modalities aiming to perform in-patient studies within 48 hours and out- patients within 4 weeks by end of 2014.

Improve awareness regarding safety in radiology in particular with MRI.
- Printing of patient information leaflets describing various procedures by end of 2013.
- Developing MRI safety leaflets by end of 2013
- Conducting regular staff awareness sessions till end of 2013
- To update the radiology website by end of 2014.
