Terminology

The human body is composed of tissues, such as the liver, heart, and muscles, and tissues are made up of specialized cells. Each cell contains a genome stored in its nucleus.

  • Genome: It is the complete set of genes, which consists of approximately 20,000 genes, in addition to the genetic material that is interspersed within it.
  • Genomics: This is the science that deals with the study of the complete set of genes and how they function, the analysis and interpretation of this information, and the techniques used in its analysis.
  • Biobank:s A biobank is a collection of biological samples (such as blood, DNA and Tissues) and health information. Biobanks can be large and hold thousands of samples that can be studied and investigated in the future for research and medical purposes.
