The Ministry of Health took part in the final evaluation of several shopping malls in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the “Mu’azzaz” Project for shopping centers and malls. The initiative was launched by the Healthy Cities Committee at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Gulf Health Council, with the aim of further promoting health in community environments and encouraging healthy lifestyles.
The Ministry of Health affirmed that this participation comes as part of its continued support for joint GCC efforts to enhance public health, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the unified health vision of the GCC countries.
The Ministry noted that the evaluation included malls that applied to participate in the project during 2025, namely: City Centre Bahrain, The Avenues Bahrain, and Al Enma Mall. The evaluation committee was chaired by Dr. Fatima Al-Mutawa, Head of the Programs Section at the Health Promotion Directorate, with the participation of accredited evaluators from the Ministries of Health of the GCC states.
It further explained that the project is based on six main pillars: healthy lifestyles, awareness, community partnership, hygiene and environment, safety and security, and quality of community services. The project is implemented through a unified mechanism that includes field visits to assess the extent of compliance of the malls with the approved standards.
