WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Meets with National Teams and Committees in the Health Sector

In the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Hassan Balkhy, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Eastern Mediterranean, met with a number of officials and representatives of national teams and committees, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in public health and national priority areas.

During the meeting, the Minister of Health stressed the importance of adopting a multi-sectoral approach in formulating public health policies and strategies, as well as strengthening partnerships with various national and international entities to support the implementation of health programs, and investing in the capacity-building of healthcare professionals to improve the efficiency of Bahrain’s health system and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the health sector.

The National Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Team reviewed its efforts in preventing chronic diseases and following up on related strategic plans, while the National Communicable Diseases Team focused on strengthening the epidemiological surveillance system and rapid response. The One Health Committee highlighted coordination among all relevant sectors to prevent common health risks. In addition, efforts by the National Committee for Tobacco Control and the National Committee for the Prevention of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) were discussed, including key initiatives and programs in these areas, and ways to enhance cooperation with WHO to support prevention, awareness, and the expansion of services provided to target groups.

In this context, Dr. Balkhy noted that Bahrain’s national teams and committees represent an advanced model of joint work in developing the health sector through a comprehensive and integrated approach, supported by strong institutional commitment and advanced administrative organization.

The Minister of Health expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Balkhy for her fruitful visit, affirming that such meetings are an important step toward strengthening the strategic partnership with WHO and accelerating progress in priority health projects.
