Continuous commitment to COVID-19 precautionary measures urged

Family Medicine Consultant, Dr. Latifa Mohammed Al Jema’a, has underscored the need to continue applying the precautionary measures with caution to mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). She said the ability of the body to fight off the virus after vaccination differs from one person to another. “Therefore, everyone has to take caution to prevent the spread of the virus,” she added, warning of the danger of the mutated coronavirus and its rapid spread.
 
Dr. Al Jema’a emphasised the importance to continue adhering to the preemptive measures like wearing face masks, washing hands and applying social distancing standards until the virus recedes. She urged to show no laxity or complacency in applying the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus, particularly among the elderly and children most at risk of infection. She stressed the need to deal with the pandemic cautiously due to the danger of the mutating and fast-spreading virus. She called on all to take caution when contacting the elderly, people with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children even inside one home. She also cautioned to stay away from gatherings and restrict them to one family at home, underlining the importance to fully commit to the preventative measures and the instructions of the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus and official authorities to prevent an increase in the caseload of infections.
 
Dr. Al Jema’a underscored the importance of taking the COVID-19 vaccine for the protection it offers to the individual, the family and social surrounding. She emphasised that the vaccines are safe and effective in reducing the severity of the symptoms in the few cases that might be infected with it after taking the vaccine and passing it on to others. She pointed out that 278,222 people in Bahrain have been inoculated so far, praising keenness on taking the jab which is considered as part of the national responsibility.
 
She concluded by re-asserting the need to continue adhering to the precautionary measures as well as call 444 should any symptoms develop and follow the instructions to be given.
