An internal probe committee has been set up at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC), the Ministry of Health announced.

The move followed the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to tighten control over the dispensing of medicines at government and private pharmacies nationwide.

HRH the Premier also gave directives to tighten control over drug stores to ensure that the requirements of storage and sale of narcotic drugs and controlled drugs are implemented for the sake of citizens and residents’ health and safety.

Health Minister Faeqa bint Said Al-Saleh commended HRH the Premier’s directives to toughen penalties on violators and ensure commitment to the laws and regulations governing the pharmaceutical profession and centres.

She praised HRH the Premier’s keenness to ensure that high-quality health care is delivered to the citizens and the residents, and ascertain  commitment to commitment to the laws and protocols regulating the dispensing of medicines in a manner that would leave no room for exploiting them, making profit from them or wasting public funds allocated to purchasing medicine.

In a statement today, she announced cooperation between the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities to submit a report to HRH the Premier, immediately after finishing the investigation.
