"Paramedic in Every House" Programme

Upon the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and within the framework of implementing the winning ideas of 2020 in the Government Innovation Competition (Fikra), the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health launched the first stage of the "Paramedic in Every House" Programme to improve the quality and efficiency of health services, which aims to create a national programme to train school health professionals and students the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while utilizing the curriculum to teach students different levels of first aid training. These initiatives and programmes also aim to increase first aid awareness among targeted community segments, increase the survival rate for injured patients, and improve sustainable development indicators.

Understanding the basic first aid skills and procedures and expanding the scope of these humanitarian programmes contributes to developing a safer, healthier, and more sustainable community, which helps in responding to a variety of critical cases and injuries appropriately and providing emergency or immediate care to prevent harm, particularly avoidable harm or potential complications.

Mobile Units and Home Care

Mobile Units have been provided for the elderly in primary healthcare centres to provide nursing services and elderly care at their homes, particularly those who cannot come to the health centres in person to receive the required care services. The implementation of this programme was prompted by the observations and needs of the elderly to provide them with a healthy, supportive life as they age. The Units provide a package of health services, comprehensive preventive and curative care services that keep pace with the various needs of this age group. This reflects the response to the needs of the elderly, and individuals with special needs, ensuring their easy access to healthcare services.

The Mobile Unit for the elderly consists of two teams, one for men and the other for women, and each team has four employees(a Qualified Nurse, two Home Care Technicians and a Medical Driver). The Units were distributed into five mobile units to cover medical care in all governorates of the Kingdom so that each Unit would include eight employees and two buses.

These Units depart from the health centres and conduct home visits from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at a rate of six days a week. They provide health, social and psychological services to the elderly aged 60 years or over who cannot come to the health centres in person to receive healthcare services. These services include the following:

  1. Measurement of Blood Pressure.
  2. Measurement of Blood Sugar.
  3. Withdrawing Blood Samples for Laboratory.
  4. Giving Different Types of Injections.
  5. Changing the dressings of all types of wounds and ulcers.
  6. Changing and taking care of the urinary catheter.
